We still find what drives El Ghezal's photographic act: this impulse to seek the light of a reality that, by convention, does not seem to deserve the image…
Excerpt from "Returns ou le hors-champ photographié" Mohamed-Ali Berhouma
" What defines return ? Is it the direction taken, or that muted joy that animates the soul? "

From Train n°6 (2004–2006)—the road back to Akouda, stations out of time, Paul Garnier clocks—El Ghezal has clung to the gesture of return. Between 2012 and 2013, on the roads of Zaghouan, he exposed a little more than fifteen rolls of film, black and white and colour, inviting eyes to see something other than the usual field that sells Tunisia to the world. The day of return differs from every other: time is otherwise, the path taken too. The images follow a gradual entry into what can embody the place of origin—where earth and sky open their arms—until the frame tightens and the home becomes the ultimate form of the country. Between the infinity of the land and the intimate space of the dwelling, the road traces an itinerary without specifying its direction.
